Our Favourite Things to Do on a Rainy Day in VancouverPosted on November 01, 2017
Here in Vancouver, a long and very rainy season has begun. As we prepare for another wet winter, our team decided to make a list of our favourite Top Things to Do on a Rainy Day in Vancouver. Whether you’re in the mood for curling up at home or heading outside, we have lots of rainy day ideas for you!
Walk around Trout Lake. Gary loves dressing for the weather and walking around Trout Lake with his partner and his youngest dog, Bueller. Best enjoyed with a London Fog in hand.
Relax at home. When you’re in the mood to stay at home, Gary suggests turning on the fireplace, sitting on the sofa, and watching a great show on Netflix.
Take cooking classes. Gary will embrace his inner chef and sign up for a cooking class at The Dirty Apron, like The Best Brunch or Hawaiian Nights.
Get some work done. Sylvia loves bringing her laptop to Kings Cafe on Kingsway and sipping on their specialty coffees. The cafe is modern, bright, and has a vibrant feel – plus good staff and music.
Visit the Vancouver Art Gallery. Sylvia’s favourite exhibits at the Vancouver Art Gallery are mid-century collections from Europe, but the art gallery always has something interesting. If you go on Tuesday evenings, admission is by donation!
Run around Stanley Park. This might seem odd in the rain, but Cheryl says it’s great to have our beautiful seawall all to herself! The best part about this rainy day activity is the feeling of accomplishment you get while getting wet and slightly dirty, then stopping into the nearest local coffee shop (like Revolver) for a delicious pour-over to help warm up.
Bowling at Commodore Lanes. Cheryl and her husband, Peter, went on their first date here seven years ago, and they still love it! Commodore Lanes on the Granville strip offers the perfect mix of nostalgia and competition with their retro 5-pin bowling. From rental shoes to bumper pads, this place is ready to serve up the fun.
See a movie. Mike thinks that a rainy day is the perfect excuse to get inside, have some popcorn, and see a movie. If you want to indulge, you could even get a glass or two of wine at the new Fifth Avenue Cinemas!
Make a coffee date. Catch up with a friend over coffee at a shop like Matchstick in Chinatown or Small Victory in Yaletown. There’s nothing better than looking outside at the pouring rain with a hot coffee and good company.
Browse a bookstore. Becky enjoys visiting local bookstores like Banyen Books & Sound or MacLeod’s Books to browse for the perfect new book. Afterwards, take your book out to cozy coffee shop or curl up at home and read.
Play board games. Pull out your favourite board game at home, pop some popcorn, and pour yourself some wine or hot chocolate for the perfect day inside.
